Wolverine Costume Guide
Throughout the years, X-Men team member and superhero Wolverine has undergone multiple looks and costuming changes, ranging from a slight inequity in color to a complete change in style. Originally, Wolverine wore a classic, form-fitting, gold and blue suit.
One of Wolverine’s costume styles is known as the “black leather jacket costume.” Wolverine (as portrayed by Hugh Jackman) wears this costume in the “X-Men” movies. Here’s how you can put together the full look:
Claws
Watch this video to learn how to make claws out of plastic scythes from a Halloween or costume store. (Scythes are the weapons usually carried by the grim reaper.) Though some plastic costume scythes are quite elaborate, try to find a simple design for your Wolverine costume, such as this black-and-silver scythe.
Dog Tags
Wolverine wears dog tags. One reads “Logan” and the other says “Wolverine.” You can purchase these at a costume store or wear a genuine person’s military dog tags (with permission) under a white, ribbed, sleeveless shirt to hint at the right look.
Hair
Wolverine has mutton chops, a full beard, and hair styled into peaks on either side in his trademark fashion. He has a few stray pieces of hair hanging about his forehead. You can accomplish this look with dark brown hair dye (if your hair isn’t brown) and maximum hold hair spray.
Shirt
Wolverine wears a tight-fitting, sleeveless, ribbed white shirt. This item is available in most retail and discount stores in the men’s underwear section.
Pants
Logan wears a pair of dark wash denim jeans with a relatively snug fit.
Belt and Buckle
Wolverine dons a brown leather belt with three studs in the right side. Use a regular brown belt and punch holes in one raze using a leather hole puncher. Insert three silver studs.
The belt buckle worn in one movie still features an American Indian head with a large feathered headdress. Acquire this item at a second-hand store or pawn shop.
Leather Jacket
Possibly the hardest item to customize, Wolverine’s signature costume part in the movie-costume version is a black leather jacket lined with yellow, keeping Wolverine in his traditional costume colors. To make this piece, alter a futuristic-looking black leather jacket by gluing yellow leather (or faux leather) piping down the shoulders and around the neck.
